NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF CHILDREN IN SOME PUBLIC KINDERGARTENS IN HAI CHAU DISTRICT, DA NANG IN 2019

Abstract

Children are a high risk group which suffers from a various types of nutrition-related
diseases. Many evidence showed the relationship between childhood diet and
physical and mental development, working capability and risk to NCD in adulthood.
The study aimed to describe the nutritional status of children in public pre-schools. A
cross-sectional study was conducted among 326 children aged from 2 to 5 years old in
two public preschools in Hai Chau District, Da Nang city. Three indicators including
weight-for-age, height-for-age and BMI-for-age were used to assess nutritional status
among children. Results: The proportions of underweight, overweight - obesity and
stunting were 3.1%, 17.2% and 13.8%. Based on BMI-for-age indicator, 9.5% of children
suffered from wasting and 20.9% were obese.
