NUTRITION COUNSELING WITH DELATA SOFTWARE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN WITH GESTATIONAL DIABETES METILLUS IN TU DU HOSPITAL

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the use of DELATA software developed to assess
nutrition status for pregnant women, develop diets and provide nutrition counseling
for pregnant women with gestational diabetes metillus (GDM) in Tu Du hospital in the
year of 2019. Methods: It is a longitudinal study with 160 pregnant outpatients who
were diagnosed as GDM and attended Nutritional counselling unit in Tu Du hospital for
dietary management. DELATA software was used for dietary intervention, nutritional
status assessment was determined using cut-off value of IDI & WPRO, gestational
weight gain was determined by IOM 2009, GDM diet was developed followed Dietary
Guidelines for Diabetes Mellitus patients using food serving from National Institute
of Nutrition Vietnam. Results: DELATA software is simple, understandable, easy to
use, time saving for recording and accurate in calculation. After 2 weeks of nutritional
counselling, 80% of pregnant women reached their goal of controlling blood sugar and
weight, blood glucose decreased by 3.1 mmol / dL compared to before the counseling
(p <0.05). Conclusions: Nutritional counseling is important for pregnant women with
GDM, which helps control blood glucose, gestational weight gain and weekly weight
gain based on gestational age, as well as monitor intrauterine growth and fetal development.
Applying the standard consulting process from nutritional counseling software
will help the nutritional staffs give the clear and specific advice. It also helps pregnant
women easily apply dietary therapy to improve the effectiveness of treatment.
