Abstract

Aims: To describe the nutritional status of patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery at Hanoi Oncology Hospital and Tan Trieu Branch of Vietnam National Cancer Hospital in 2021.


Methods: 89 patients with colorectal cancer were weighed and interviewed with pre-designed questionnaires before and 5 days after surgery. Nutritional status was assessed by BMI, PG-SGA, serum albumin concentration, and weight loss 5 days after surgery.


Results: The prevalence of malnutrition according to BMI before surgery was 18%, after surgery was 25%; prevalence of patient with PG-SGA B before surgery was 40.4%, after surgery was 73.7%; According to the serum albumin, the prevalence of malnutrition was 21.1%.


Conclusion: The prevalence of malnutrition in patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery was quite high, assessed by PG-SGA is higher than assessed by BMI and higher after surgery than before surgery.
