Abstract

Nutritional knowledge of mothers and children diets are factors associated to nutritional
status of children. Objectives: To study food intake of 3 to 5 years-old children and nutrition knowledge of their mothers in My Khanh commune, Phong Dien district, Can Tho
city in 2017.
Methods: cross sectional study. Sample size: select all 300 mothers with
children at aged 3-5 who were managed by the communal health stations. Data analysis:
Data on nutritional knowledge was analysed by SPSS 18.0 software, dietary data were
analysed by Vietnamese Eiyokun diet program.
Conclusion: Characteristics of child daily
diet: 38% of children had an energy level that met their recommended requirement, 35%
lacked of energy and 26% had exceeded energy, 58.3% had exceeded protein, 43.4% had
exceeded fat, and 63% had carbohydrate deficiency, P: L: G and Lanimal / Ltotal ratio in
the diet were not optimal. For maternal nutrition knowledge, 48% of mothers had right
knowledge of nutrition and mothers who had the right knowledge were 1.83 time more
likely to have their children meeting nutritional requirement than those with no correct
knowledge (p = 0.012).
