Abstract

Nutrition knowledge plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of diabetes
mellitus. The study aimed to describe nutrition knowledge and some related factors
among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive
research was conducted on 440 outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Dong Anh
General Hospital, Hanoi - using pre-designed questionnaire interview method. Results:
The rate of patients having good knowledge on nutrition was 47%. This proportion was
higher in married people than people with other marital status (51.7% versus 27.4%).
The rate of patients who had received nutrition communication had the rate of good
knowledge of 52.5% compared to 32.8% of those who had not. Conclusion: Nutrition
knowledge of the study subjects was quite limited, there was a relationship between
nutritional knowledge and marital status, comorbidities, and access to nutrition communication.
