Abstract

The study aimed to determine malnutrition rate among Khmer children and some related factors. Methods: The study was designed as a cross-sectional study with 188 children and their mothers/caregivers. Data on weight and height of children and knowledge of caregivers were collected. Results: Malnutrition rate was 34.6% by weight for age score (WAZ), 40.4% by height for age score (HAZ) and 17.0% by weight for height score (WHZ). Caregiver's education level less than primary school and family income were factors that increase the risk of malnutrition in children. The caregivers have access to mass media and proper knowledge regarding breast feeding practice (early initiation of breast feeding within 1 hour after birth; Colostrums feeding, breast milk as the first food) were factors contributing to reduce the risk of malnutrition.
