Abstract

Physical activity is one of the important factors for improving human health status and disease
prevention. Physical inactivity is the fourth top cause for global mortality. Objectives: to determine
the prevalence of children, who met recommendations for physical activity and sedentary activity,
and some characteristics of the physical activity pattern among children in some primary schools
in Hai Phong City. Methodology: A cross-sectional study interviewing 258 children aged 6-10
years old and their parents was conducted. Results: The prevalence of children met recommendations for physical activity and sedentary activity was 40.3% and 40.9%, respectively. On the
weekly basis, the total average time that children spent for sedentary activity tripled than those
for physical activity. The physical activity pattern among the children is inappropriate which needs
to be further studied to propose appropriate strategies and interventions to promote physical activity participation.
