CURRENT SITUATION OF NUTRITIONAL CARE OF CHILDREN AGED 6-60 MONTHS WITH ACUTE RESPIRATORY INFECTION AT TWO DISTRICT GENERAL HOSPITALS IN THAIBINH PROVINCE IN 2017

Abstract
Acute respiratory infections (ARI) and malnutrition make a vicious circle during treatment, increasing the severity of the disease, affecting the growth of the children. Objectives: To describe the situation of nutrition care for children aged 6-60 months with acute
respiratory infections at two district hospitals in Thai Binh province in 2017. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 218 pediatric patients with acute respiratory infections
between February and April 2017. Results: The rate of children, whose weight had been
checked in Vu Thu hospital was 72.5%, in Dong Hung hospital was 82.6% and in both
two hospitals was 77.5%. Vertical height/length checking rate of pediatric patients in Vu
Thu hospital was 11% and in Dong Hung hospital was 71.6%. In Dong Hung hospital, the
rate of mothers and care givers changing meal frequency was 54.1%; and changing food
density was 65.1%. While in Vu Thu hospital, this rate was 13.8% and 40.4%, respectively. After three days of hospitalization, the children in Dong Hung hospital ate well in
most food groups was 2-6 times higher than in Vu Thu hospital.
