PREVALENCE OF IRON DEFICIENCY IN CHILDREN AGED 1-15 YEARS AT THE NUTRITION CLINIC, VINMEC TIMES CITY HOSPITAL, 2025

Abstract

Aims: To identify the current status of iron deficiency in children aged 1-15 years at the nutrition clinic of Vinmec Times City International Hospital, Hanoi.

Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2025 to October 2025 with a sample size of 311 children aged 1-15 years. The subjects were measured for weight, height or length, to assess nutritional status, and biochemical indices of iron deficiency including hemoglobin, serum iron, ferritin, transferrin, TIBC, TSAT and MCV.

Results: Of the 311 children, 23.1% had iron deficiency, 29.9% had low ferritin, 9.96% had high TIBC, 9.93% had low TSAT, 0.3% had high transferrin, 13.8% had low MCV, and 4.2% had low Hb. There was 19.9% ​​of the children having iron deficiency but not anemia while 3.2% had anemia with iron deficiency.

Conclusion: Iron deficiency and depleted iron stores were still high among children visiting for nutrition consultation.
