Abstract

Aims: To investigate the prevalence and characteristics of dyslipidemia and some factors associated to dyslipidemia in hemodialysis patients at the Center of Kidney - Urology and Dialysis, Bach Mai hospital.


Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 144 hemodialysis patients at the Center of Kidney - Urology and Dialysis, Bach Mai Hospital.


Results: The prevalence of dyslipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, elevated LDL- Cholesterol, hypertriglyceridemia, and decreased HDL-Cholesterol in hemodialysis patients was 78.5, 16, 29.2, 50.7, and 54.2%, respectively. 38.7% of patients had blood disorders with 2 lipid parameters. Patients with grade 3 and 4 lipid disorders used 14.4% and 9%, respectively. The risk of hypercholesterolemia was 3,1 times higher whereas the risk of decreased HDL-Cholesterol was 2,3 times lower in females than in males, respectively. Conclusion: The prevalence of dyslipidemia in hemodialysis patients was high, among which decreased HDL-Cholesterol and hypertriglyceridemia were higher than the others.


The dyslipidemia increased in patients was associated with longer duration of hemodialysis and males. It is necessary to develop appropriate health education and intervention programs to control this health problem.
