Abstract

Nutrition in women aged 18- 55 is an urgent concern. Besides that, micronutrient deficiency
such as iron, zinc, and folic acid is a public health problem in many countries,
including Vietnam. Subjects at high risk are pregnant women, women of childbearing age
and children. These conditions cause negative health consequences: Decreased immunity
and developmental delay in young children, complications for women during pregnancy
and at birth, decreased labor for society. A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed
on 204 women aged 18-55 working at Midori Apparel Vietnam company located in Luong
Son industrial zone, Hoa Son, Luong Son, Hoa Binh to assess nutritional status (with BMI)
and anemia. The results showed the CED prevalence was 25.5% with 14.2% at grade 1,
6.4% at grade 2 and 4,9% at grade 3. Overweight/Obesity accounted for 11.2%. The rate
of anemia was 13.3%, including 2.95% with iron deficiency anemia. Low serum ferritin (<
15 μg/L) accounted for 5.4%. The anemia rate of women who had low serum ferritin was
9.83 times higher than those with ferritin more than 15 μg/L. this difference was statistically
significant (p = 0.001; 95% confidence interval was 2.759-35.01). Married status, income
and low serum ferritin were related factors of CED and anemia in this subjects.
