FAST FOOD AND BEVERAGE CONSUMPTION AMONG PEOPLE AGED 15-25 YEARS OLD BEFORE AND DURING COVID-19 PANDEMICS IN RURAL AND URBAN AREAS IN HANOI

Abstract

Fast food consumption has been rising rapidly among youth in Vietnam. This study was conducted to: 1) Determine the frequency of fast food/beverage consumption among the Vietnamese aged 15-25 years; and 2) Determine the availability of fast food/processed food at households during and before COVID-10 pandemic in rural and urban areas in Hanoi City. Methods: Interview by designed questionnaire was conducted on 371 people 15-25 years old. Results: 94.9% of the participants consumed fast food at the defined frequencies. During the COVID-19 outbreak, the number of fast food/processed food availbale at households increased by 0.8 food/household (which was 1.2 in rural areas and 0.8 in urban areas) compared with the previous. Education for appropriate frequency of fast food/processed food consumption and reduce the availability of fast food/processed food at households should be set as focused contents in nutritional education and communication activities, particularly in the youth and pandemic situation.
