Abstract

This study was carried out aiming to describe the situation and related factors on early initiation of breastfeeding among 269 mothers with children from 7 to 12 months of age in Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province. Method: cross-sectional descriptive study using questionnaire to directly interview mothers. Results: 79.9% of the mothers practiced early initiation of breastfeeding; 26.8% of the mothers gave their babies other drinks than breast milk before the first breastfeed. Mothers with Caesarean Section; without family supports; belonging to King group and giving low birth weight babies had a higher rate of not practicing early initiation of breastfeeding than other mothers.
