Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate nutritional status of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Bach Mai Hospital in 2014. Using the cross-sectional method in 150 patients with COPD, indicators for nutritional status were body mass index (BMI), middle upper arm circumference (MUAC) and subjective global assessment
(SGA). The results showed that the percentage of patients with malnutrition (according to BMI) was 69.3%, 28% was normal and overweight was 2.7%. The percentage of patients with arm circumference (MUAC) in the normal range was 51.9%, the risk of malnutrition with mild and moderate was 41.4%; the risk of severe malnutrition was 6.7%.
According to SGA, 8.0% of patients were identified not to be at risk of malnutrition, the risk of mild to moderate malnutrition was 54% and severe malnutrition was 38%. Nutrition assessment of COPD patients is the basis for nutrition intervention planning.
