Malnutrition in surgical patients increases the rate of infection, complications. Assessment of nutritional status helps detect the risk of malnutrition, providing timely nutritional support that contributes to the treatment outcomes. Nutritional status has been evaluated by various objective measures, in which, SGA is a good tool, with high sensitivity and specificity to assess nutritional status in hospitalized patients. Objective: To assess preoperative nutritional status and to find out some related factors of colorectal cancer patients in Viet Duc Hospital. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Results: The risk of malnutrition according to SGA, BMI, and albumin were 55.6%, 19.4% and 8.3%, respectively. There was a statistically significant association between malnutrition and weight loss, BMI and albumin. Conclusion: Preoperative assessment for colorectal cancer patients by SGA should be done so that patients can receive more appropriate and effective treatment.
