Abstract
This prospective cohort study aimed to assess the nutrition status and associated risk factors of hospitalized children aged 6-60 months old during their staying at pediatric department in Binh Duong hospital in 2016. Hospitalized children were assessed nutritional status by anthropometry and a Subjective Global Nutrition Assessment (SGNA) and then were followed their weight everyday until come out of hospital. The sample included 564 children. The frequency of wasted, stunted, acute malnutrition was 12.06%, 25.53%, and 10.82% respectively. Based on their SGNAs, 32.62% of children were at risk of nutrition. There was 36.80% of nutrition risk group less than 24 months. Most of all were in hospital for 3-5 days. The at-risk group stayed longer than RR 1.08 (95% Cl 1.07 to 1.80). We found that 5% of not-at risk group at admission became wasted when out of hospital. Require focused nutritional assessment in hospitalized children to have early intervention for who was at risk of nutrition and to take better childcare and treatment, decrease complications and shorten the hospitalized time.
