Abstract

Aims: To evaluate microalbumin concentration and related factors in type 2 diabetic outpatients at 103 Military Hospital.

Methods: Cross-sectional study was conducted in 136 patients with type 2 diabetes and treated as outpatients at 103 Military Hospital from January to April 2021. They were tested for microalbuminuria. Associated factors with microalbumin concentration and high microalbumin status were tested using Generalized Linear Model and Multivariable logistic regression analysis, respectively.

Results: The median (interquartile range) of microalbuminuria was 9.25 (5.03-28.95) (mg/L). The rate of the patients  with high albuminuria was 24.3%. Factors associated to microalbuminuria level included age (β=0.032, p=0.016), regular exercise (β=-0.919; p=0.004), body mass index (β=0.08; p=0.014), serum cholesterol (β=-0.370; p<0.0001), and serum creatinine (β=0.018; p=0.003).

Some factors associated with the risk of MAU (+) included age ≥65 (OR=3.47; 95CI 1.31-9.19; p=0.012), body mass index (OR=1.15; 95CI 0.99-1.349; p=0.07); serum creatinine (OR=1.03; 95CI 1.002-1.06; p=0.027); Insulin injections (OR=13.7; 95CI 1.14-164.4; p=0.039).

Conclusions: The rate of positive microalbuminuria is high in the outpatients with type 2 diabetes. Age, body mass index, and injections are associated with high albuminuria.
