Abstract

The number of elderly people with chronic diseases is increasing, more than 70% have
to take regular health services, among which the complications and sequels are accounted
for 27%. The majority of elderly people do not pay attention in nutrition. Their eating behavior depends on eating preferences, habits, or the descendants, making the conditions
more severe, complicated and affecting quality of life. Through a survey of 200 elderly
patients treated for diabetes at Chronic Disease Department of District Hospital in Binh
Chanh in 2018, 49% knew very little or did not know about the benefits of nutrition in diabetes, 28% practiced normal diet at home, 60% did not know the benefits of nutritional
counseling, thus having no need for nutritional advice nor being interested in nutrition.
