NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND EATING HABIT OF LAOS STUDENTS AT TAY BAC UNIVERSITY IN 2020

Abstract

Objectives: To assess nutritional status, eating habits and lifestyles of Laos students at Tay
Bac University in 2020, thereby making appropriate nutritional recommendations for students.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 298 Laos students at Tay
Bac University. A self-administered questionnaires was used which included questions on
anthropometry, eating habits and lifestyles. Results: The average height of males was 165.3
± 6.6 cm, and that of females was 154.6 ± 5.6 cm; The average weight of males was 61.6 ±
8.3 kg, of females was 51.5 ± 7.5 kg. The PBF of males was 17.2±6.9, of females was 28.7
± 7.6. The rate of CED was 8.1%, the overweight rate was 8.1%, the obesity rate was 1.7%.
Frequency of using fried foods >4 times/week accounted for 13.1%, 44% of students used
alcoholic beverages 1-2 times/week, 90.9% of students did not smoke, the percentage of
students participating in sport activities accounted for 84.2%. Conclusion: The Laos students
in the study had a CED rate of 8.1 % and an overweight rate of9 .8%.
