NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND SOME RELATED FACTORS OF STUDENTS IN MILITARY MEDICINE COLLEGE No1 IN 2018

Abstract

Objective: to assess nutritional status and some related factors of students of No1 Military Medical College in 2018, thereby giving recommendations for nutrition improvement
of the students.
Study design: Cross-sectional study, over 418 students of Military Medicine College
No1 in 2018 were surveyed on nutritional anthropometric indices and some factors related
to nutritional status such as diet, physical activities, intellectual activities and social economic. Data were analyzed by medical statistical methods.
Results: The average height and weight of men were 170.0 ± 5.9cm and 60.1 ± 9.4kg,
of women were 157 ± 4.9cm and 48.9 ± 6.1kg. Fat density was 16.0 ± 4.2%. Average
waist size was 72.0 ± 7.9cm, chest size was 84.8 ± 6.4cm, buttock size was 89.8 ± 5.7cm.
Average BMI was 20.3 ± 2.4, and the prevalence of chronic energy deficiency was 21.3%.
The rate of overweight/ obesity was 11.0%. The proportion of students with chronic energy
deficiency who had irregular breakfast was 27.4%, in which those skipping meals accounted for 16.9%. The proportion of overweight/obesity students having regular breakfast
was 13.0%, having no restricted diet was 90.4%, having irregular breakfast was 89.4%.
Conclusion: The overall energy deficiency rate of students of 1 Military Medical College No was 21.3%, the overall overweight/ obesity student rate was 11.0%. There is an
association between some factors with nutritional status: Students do not eat breakfast
regularly, students do not cook for themselves, monthly spending of students.
