Abstract

Traceability is the ability to find food sources that contribute to ensuring food safety in food
supply chain. This study was conducted to investigate the traceability of tea products based
on labeling information on the product packaging. The survey was conducted on 155 samples of tea products circulating in Hanoi and compared with the current regulations on quality
management and traceability of the state, and also the possibility of source for products that
are certified to the quality management system and use a bar code number was surveyed. The
results showed that 86.6% of the samples met all the information on compulsory labeling,
including necessary information to help the management process. Information can be used
for product traceability that has a quality management system such as date of manufacture
(100%), batch number (19.44%). Among products that use a barcode number in traceability,
38.95% of samples have information about the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) and the
Global Location Number (GLN) which are transparent and reliable. This information makes
it easy to find out product information, traceability as well as to increase the commercial
value of the product. This result showed that tea product can be traceable one step backward,
however it is still limited in product recall or looking for non-compliance causes.
