IMPLEMENTATION OF NUTRITION ACTIVITIES AT NUTRITION DEPARTMENTS OF PROVINCIAL CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL IN 63 PROVINCES AND CITIES IN 2024 AND PLAN FOR 2025

Abstract

Aims: To determine the implementation status of nutrition activities at provincial Centers for Disease Control (CDCs) in 2024 and the implementation plan for 2025.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on all 63 provincial/municipal CDCs from February 10, 2025 to March 10, 2025. The questionnaire was designed based on nutrition activities according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health and the National Nutrition Strategy. Data were cleaned, aggregated and analyzed using Excel, presented as frequencies (n) and percentages (%) with a 100% response rate from all units.

Results: In 2024, core activities of the National Nutrition Strategy such as "Nutrition for the First 1000 Days of Life" and "Nutrition and Development Week" achieved 100% implementation. The activity "Monitoring and surveillance of nutrition indicators" increased from 79.4% (2022) to 96.8% (2024). However, specialized activities such as "Occupational Nutrition" (15.8%) and "Clinical/Therapeutic Nutrition" (20.6%) remained at low levels. Regarding communication, there was a disparity between contents: "Nutrition for Pregnant and Lactating Women" reached 96.8%, while "Occupational Nutrition Communication" only achieved 23.8%. The 2025 plan shows a trend of maintaining core activities with modest improvements in some weak areas. Most provinces (42.9% in 2024, expected 46.0% in 2025) implemented 70-90% of professional nutrition activities.

Conclusion: Provincial CDCs have actively implemented numerous nutrition activities, particularly national priority programs. However, significant gaps remain in specialized areas and for specific target populations such as occupational nutrition, clinical-therapeutic nutrition, and nutrition for adults-elderly. In the future, units need additional investment and specific support in technical expertise and human resources to enhance capacity and scope of activities.
