Abstract

Aims: To assess the current status of overweight, obesity and some related factors in female workers at TNG Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company, Fashion Branch, Thai Nguyen Province. 

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between September and December 2023 in 512 female workers. Data collected through a questionnaire including general information, knowledge and practices on prevention of overweight and obesity. Some anthropometric indicators were measured including weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference. Multivariable regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with overweight and obesity.

Results: The overall overweight and obesity rate of female workers was 12.9% (10.7% overweight and 2.2% obesity). The significant factors associated with overweight and obesity included: family history of overweight and obesity (OR=2.09; p = 0.014), high waist circumference (OR=7.99; p = 0.009), high waist/hip ratio (OR=4.14; p <0.001), poor practice of prevention on overweight and obesity (OR=3.13; p = 0.002).

Conclusion: The rate of overweight and obesity was predominant in female workers at the studied company. It is necessary to may more attentiion on nutritional education and nutritional practices to improve workers' health.
