Abstract

Aims: This study aims to survey on nutritional status and study of some related factors of inpatients at Endocrinology Department, 108 Military Central Hospital.

Methods: A cross - sectional study was conducted with 890 inpatients admitted treatment at The Endocrinology Department 108 Military Central Hospital from January, 2023 to January, 2024, using SGA, BMI to assess nutritional status.

Results: The rate of patients at risk of malnutrition according to SGA was 53.1%. The rate of malnutrition according to BMI was 10.0%. Patients ≥ 60 years old had 6.9 times more likely to be malnutrition than the group <60 years old (p<0.05). Patients with more than two diseases had 2.7-fold greater odds of having malnutrition (p<0.05) and the anemic group had 8.5 times more likely to be malnutrition than the non-anemic group (p<0.05). Patients fed through a gastric tube had 9.2 times more likely to suffer from malnutrition than the group that ate well by mouth (p<0.05).

Conclusion: Patients at risk of malnutrition when admitted to hospital account for a high proportion. There is a relationship between malnutrition risk and age, comorbidities, anemia status and feeding route. Therefore, screening upon admission should be performed as soon as possible to detect malnutrition risk in order to have an intervention orientation, minimizing complications.
