Abstract

Aims: The study aims to describe the nutritional care status of pediatric patients after surgery for appendicitis at the VietNam National hospital of Pediatrics between 2022 and 2023.


Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted on 90 pediatric patients after surgery for appendicitis peritonitis at the VietNam National hospital of Pediatrics from August 2022 to March 2023.


Results: The average time to start oral nutrition was 2.6±0.9 days. The main source of meals for pediatric patients comes from the hospital (63.3%). During 7 days of hospitalization, the child's energy supply (including fluids) only reached 40% of the recommended needs. The energy-generating substances provided to children are also very low, only reaching 30-50% of needs.


Conclusion: Therefore, timely interventions are needed to improve nutritional care for pediatric patients during hospitalization.
