ANTHROPOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS AND LIFESTYLES IN DIABETES PATIENTS WITHOUT GOOD GLYCEMIC CONTROL

Abstract

Aims: To describe anthropometric charateristics and lifestyle in diabetes patients who had not achieved their good glycemic control (HbA1c >7%).


Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 500 patients with type 2 diabetes who had not achieved good glycemic control.


Results: The study population was 44.6% male, average age 65.4 years, average HbA1c 8.12%, average BMI 22.2 kg/m2 and 37.8% overweight-obese. The rates of patients who smoke, use alcohol, exercise <5 times/week, and do not have good nutritional habits were 22.0, 16.4, 53.2, and 33.2%, respectively


Conclusion: Patients with type 2 diabetes without good glycemic control had a high rate of overweight-obesity and other cardiovascular risk factors including smoking, drinking alcohol and being physically inactive and poor nutritional habits.
