Main Article Content
Abstract
The study aimed to assess actual food intake of adult people living with HIV (nonpregnant, non-lactating) registering at 29 Outpatient Clinics nationwide by a cross sectional survey. Sample included 150 subjects to provide actual food intake data and 300 subjects to provide food frequency data. Food intake data were collected by 24h hour recall method, using standard food album and food weight conversion table. Results showed that average energy intake was 1849.8kcal/person/day. Average protein intake was 84.4 g/person/day, of which animal protein was 51.1g. Average fat intake was 46.3 g/capita/day, of which vegetal fat was 14.0g. Food frequency: the most common food was rice (99% used it every day), then vegetables (83%), fats (61.7%), fruits (49.%) and meat (46.7%). There is a need to improve nutrition counseling for PLHIV on healthy diet, which is more balanced in nutrients and adequate in micronutrients.
