Abstract
Patients with cancer face many challenges, including maintaining a good nutritional status and avoiding malnutrition. This study aims to assess the nutritional status among cancer patients at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 280 cancer patients between June and December 2016. The results illustrated that, according to Body mass index (BMI), the percentage of malnutrition and overweight/obesity were 21.8% and 6.1%, respectively. 52.5% of cancer patients suffered from malnutrition or suspected malnutrition, as classified by PG-SGA. The proportion of patients with loss weight in the past 6 months and the past 1 month were 77.5% and 41.1%, respectively. About 23.8% participants were malnourished as classified by Albumin and 48.2% had malnourished by TLC. That the prevalence of patients with anemia were 48.9%. Gastrointestinal cancer patients were at significantly higher risk of malnutrition (by PGSGA) and anemia than non gastrointestinal cancer patients (p<0.05). The malnutrition status of gastrointestinal cancer patients are the highest.
