Main Article Content
Abstract
Aims: To evaluate the prevalence rate of malnutrition and some related factors in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 135 cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy in the General Surgery Department of Nhan Dan Gia Dinh Hospital. Nutritional status was evaluated based on the Patient Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) Body Mass Index (BMI), and its related factors were analyzed using SPSS V.20.
Results: In 135 patients, 72 men and 63 women, the average age was 58,63 ± 10,08. The proportion of patients with BMI <18,5 kg/m2 was 17,8% and with BMI ≥25 kg/m2 was 11,9%. There are 51,9% patients at risk of malnutrition according to PG-SGA classification. There was a relationship between age and cancer organ with nutritional status according to PG-SGA on cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy with p<0,05.
Conclusion: The malnutrition rate of this research was 17,8%, while PG-SGA was 51,9%. Both Age and cancer organs had a relationship with patient nutritional status. Therefore, nutritional assessment of patients is necessary to help improve treatment responseand serve as the database for further in-depth studies.
