Abstract

Objective: To describe nutritional status of children aged 36-59 months in some preschools
in Son La city in 2015.
Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study of 2471 children
aged 36-59 months in Son La city, Son La province was conducted to assess their nutritional
status.
Results: The average height and weight were significantly higher in boys compared
to girls (p<0.05). The mean WAZ was -1.12 ± 0.87. The mean HAZ was -1.57 ± 0.85. The
mean WHZ was -0.31 ± 1.13. WHZ differed by age group, sex and ethnic group (p<0.05).
The prevalence of underweight, stunting and wasting was 13.3%, 31.0% and 5.3%, respectively. The overweight/obesity rate accounted for 3.2%. The prevalence of overweight/obesity was higher in boys than in girls.
Conclusion: The Z-Scores of children aged 36-59 months
in Son La city were low (WAZ, HAZ, WHZ <0), among which HAZ was the lowest. Child
malnutrition prevalence was still high, especially stunting
