Abstract

Aims: To assess the nutritional status, hyperglycemia and the effect of reduced chewing power on workers at a manufacturing in Ho Chi Minh City.

Methods: Cross-sectional study, the workers (n=766) aged from 19 to 60 years old have been selected to the study, period from September 2021 to December 2021. Nutritional status assessed according BMI index/WHO guideline, chewing power anf hyperglycemie according to Vietnam MOH guideline.

Results: The percentage of chronic energy deficiency (CED) (BMI < 18.5 kg/m2) was 7.6%, overweight (BMI ≥ 25) was 27.2% and hyperglycemia (glucose >7mmol/L) was 14.2%. Overweight - obesity increases the risk of hyperglycemia 1.69 times (p < 0.05); reduced chewing power < 80% increased the risk of CED 2.74 times (p < 0.001).

Conclusion: Overweight-obesity and CED co-exist with remarkable prevalence among factory workers; tooth loss is a risk factor for CED.
