NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF PATIENTS WITH GRAVES’ DISEASE ATTENDING FOLLOW-UP VISITS AT THE NATIONAL HOSPITAL OF ENDOCRINOLOGY IN 2023
Main Article Content
Abstract
Aims: To assess the nutritional status of patients with Graves’ disease attending follow-up visits at the National Hospital of Endocrinology 2023.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2022 to August 2023 among 98 patients with Graves’ disease. Nutritional status was assessed based on weight and body mass index before and after the onset of Graves' disease.
Results: Among the 98 participants, the majority were female. Approximately 16.3% of patients had comorbid conditions, and 83.7% had isolated Graves’ disease. Changes in body weight were observed before and after disease onset in both sexes, with weight loss identified as a common clinical manifestation. The average weight change was 2.9 ± 5.3 kg. The prevalence of undernutrition increased from 12.1% before disease onset to 22.2% after disease onset in both sexes. Conversely, the prevalence of overweight and obesity decreased from 34.3% to 25.3%.
Conclusion: Significant changes in body weight and nutritional status were observed in both male and female patients before and after the onset of Graves’ disease. Greater attention to nutritional care and interventions for patients with Graves’ disease is essential to improve nutritional status and help reduce disease-related burdens during treatment.
