NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND METABOLIC SYNDROME AMONG OUTPATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES AT NAM DINH MEDICAL CENTER IN 2025
Main Article Content
Abstract
Aims: To assess the nutritional status and describe the rate of metabolic syndrome (MetS) among patients with type 2 diabetes at Nam Dinh Medical Center in 2025.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 205 patients with type 2 diabetes. The participants were directly interviewed using a structured questionnaire to collect information on general characteristics, anthropometric measurements, and blood pressure indicators. Biochemical parameters were obtained from the participants’ blood test results at Nam Dinh Medical Center. Nutritional status was classified according to body mass index. Factors associated with metabolic syndrome were identified using multivariable logistic regression analysis.
Results: Among 205 patients with type 2 diabetes, the rate of overweight was 37.1%, chronic energy deficiency was 8.8%, and the MetS rate was 65.4%. In multivariable analysis, only overweight-obesity remained independently associated with metabolic syndrome (OR = 2.85; 95% CI: 1.50–5.40; p = 0.001).
Conclusion: Overweight is highly prevalent among patients with type 2 diabetes. Metabolic syndrome is common in this population and is strongly associated with overweight-obesity. Strengthening the screening and management of metabolic risk factors is essential to reduce the risk of complications.
