Mission and purposes

  • A forum for academic exchange on sciences of food and nutrition and other related fields by all individuals and organizations who have responsibilities of training, researching, giving professional activities, providing and seeking services on the nutition and food;
  • Publication of scientific researches on nutrition and food, on food hygiene and safety to support research and training for nutritional staff nationwide, to provide knowledge and new techniques applied in communities and laboratories;
  • A forum to discuss implemented activities and share experiences on the nutrition and food safety in order to achieve the goals of the National Strategy on Nutrition 2021–2030, with a vision to 2045;
  • Dissemination of scientific achievements, researches, national and international scientific knowledge in nutrition, food and related fields;
  • Expansion of the role and contribution of the Vietnam Nutrition Association in conferences, seminars, training, scientific research and community service; Introduction activities of the food and nutrition industry in Vietnam and worldwide.

Aims and Scope:

Journal of Nutrition and Food publishes original research, case report, reviews, methodology, comment, book reviews, and information on nutrition and food sciences and other relevant sectors such as:

- Technical methods in agro-forestry-fishery production and product preservation related to quality, quantity and composition of nutrients;

- Food technology and nutrients composition of food;

- Formulas development and manufacturing nutritional products for targeted populations

- Food composition;

- Research on individual and community diet;

- Nutrition needs and meal structure of the Vietnamese.

- Nutrition status (malnutrition, overweight, obesity, micronutrient deficiency) of the population and its associations with health, growth, development, and quality of life;

- Relationships between nutrition and disorders/diseases (e.g. type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and cancers);

- Breastfeeding and complementary feedings;

- Nutrition status assessment for inpatients;

- Design menus and evaluate the effectiveness of the menus applied;

- Nutrition therapy in the hospital including intravenous and oral feeding;

- Reports on nutrition therapies and experience;

- Preventive nutritional care for people at high risk of chronic diseases (such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension...

- Individualized nutritional care for people with chronic diseases in the community

- Interactions between nutrition and physical activity;

- Fermented products and their role in nutrition and disease prevention;

- Evaluating the effectiveness of micronutrient supplementation for different populations;

Types of manuscripts

Review:  This section contains review papers including narrative review, systematic review, meta-analysis. It synthesizes and analyzes studies on a specialized area. The review articles summerize systematically important findings of previous researches worldwide on a specific topic in the field of nutrition and food, thereby making judgments about advantages, disadvantages, trends and research prospects of that topic in the future.

Original Research:  The paper publishes studies on different subjects such as humans, food, patient samples.... The original research article publishes new findings from experimental, theorical, investigation studies. An article of this type has main sections such as introduction, objectives, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, and references.

Case Study: The article describes a typical case in the field of clinical nutrition, gaines experience on nutritional assessment, treatment of nutritional disorders.

Research Methods: The article presents new methods of study, advanced methods which are validated for the first time and successfully applied in Vietnam.

Commentary Paper: The article presents critical comments, evaluation, and opinions on issues in the field of nutrition and food, especially emerging issues of sciences. The purpose is to create a broad forum for managers, researchers, manufacturers, traders..., to evaluate nutrition and food issues from scientific perspectives.

Book Introduction:  This is a review of a book or documents (monograms,   textbooks, guidelines) related to emerging issues in the field of nutrition and food.

Scientific Information: The articles summarize the new findings, scientific and technological events in the field of nutrition and food worldwide. It can be a first-time article, a translation from a foreign document, a full-text article or a part of  published document of a health programs or projects.

 

Publishing Process

 

Principles:  All articles have to be double-blind peer reviewed by two scientists and must be approved by the Editor-in-Chief.  

Steps from submission to publication

Step 1. Submission

Authors submit articles online. Before submitting the article, the author needs to check to make sure all of the following 6 items are complete:

  • Research paper or partial results that have not been published or are being submitted to another journal.
  • All studies involving human subjects have to be approved by a medical ethics committee prior to research.
  • The manuscript is formatted in Microsoft Word file,
  • Text is formatted using Unicode encoding Times New Roman font style, A4 size, font size 12, spacing between lines is 1.5 and set the margin each way to 2.5.
  • All figures, tables and figures are placed in the text at appropriate points, not at the end of the manuscript.
  • Present the text and references according to the instructions in the Author's Guide.

Step 2. Check and Review (3 weeks)

Checking manuscript (2 days)

  • - The scientific secretary will check a manuscript and report to the Editor-in-Chief whether the paper is secure in terms of scope, structure, format, and research ethics. The scientific secretary will guide the author on the content that needs to be adjusted and supplemented.
  • The editor-in-chief or deputy editor-in-chief informe authors:
  • The article is accepted for review: This letter will be sent to all authors with a request to confirm that they are the author or co-author of the article.
  • Articles that need to be edited before submitting for review, include correction requests and instructions.
  • The article was not accepted for review and reasons.

Review (17 days)

  • The Editor-in-Chief invite two appropriate reviewers to evaluate each article.
  • Invitation letters will be sent to reviewers with title and abstract (anonymous author).
  • The editor will send the full text of the draft article (anonymously) and the manuscript comment form to the two reviewers upon receipt of a letter of consent.
  • Reviewers log in, evaluate paper and give comments using the formatted form and submit comments within 2 weeks.
  • Reviewers can discuss with each other and with the editor some content of the manuscript.

Reply to authors

  • The scientific secretary summarizes the comments of the reviewer and attaches the reviewer's comments to the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned member of the Editorial Board. Decisions includes one of the following: accepted, minor revision, major revision, rejected.
  • The Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor will write a reply to the corresponding author (anonymous reviewers) when both reviewers accept to publish the article.
  • When only one reviewer accept the paper, the Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor invite an additional reviewer. When the peer reviewer agrees to publish the article, the scientific secretary extracts all peer-reviewed comments and sends them to the author.
  • When both reviewers disagree to publish the article, the scientific secretary sends the review to the Editor-in-Chief to decide to notify the author that the article is not accepted for publication.

Step 3. Revisions (3 weeks)

  • The author revise manuscript according to reviewer's comments, give suitable explaination within 2 weeks. The edited content is marked using track changes or yellow highlighted. The author sends the revised manuscript and the response report to the editor.
  • The editor transfers the revised paper and response report to the reviewer for re-evaluation (if requested by the reviewer) within 1 week.
  • When the reviewer agrees to publish without any revisions, the editor consider to make sure the edited content has met the reviewer's request. Evaluation results sent to the editor-in-chief.
  • The editor-in-chief evaluates the results of the review and informe the authors that has been accepted for publication.

Step 4. Publication (2 weeks)

Editorial secretary

  • Articles that have been accepted for publication will be numbered by the editorial secretary in chronological order according to the normal or special request of the accepted article.
  • The editorial secretary collects the articles with photos (if any) and have them formatted.
  • The editorial secretary check and correct a proofreading for spelling errors.
  • The editorial secretary sends the formatted version of the paper to the Editor-in-Chief
  • The formatted manuscript will be sent back to the author to check the title, name and address of the author, spelling, accuracy of the data. Within 48 hours of submission, the author can request an additional revision, if the author does not reply, it means that he agrees to the final version before printing or online publication.

 

REGULATIONS ON PUBLICATION ETHNICS

  • The Vietnam Journal of Food and Nutrition issues the publication and ethical regulations for the publication. The authors, reviewers, members of the Editorial Board and Secretariat of the Journal, and other relevant persons commit to comply with and strictly implement these regulations.
  • When submitting articles to the Journal, the author and co-authors commit that the submitted manuscript must be a study done by the authors themselves. Article authors and co-authors are responsible for complying with research ethics and publishing scientific work; personal responsibility for the content of the article, the accuracy and academic integrity of the content of the scientific work (full and correct citation; data and analysis results are truthful and has not been tampered with and/or modified). Plagiarism screening

  • Scientific secretary checks for plagiarism in manuscripts. Reviewers are also required to evaluate and provide advice to the Editorial Board and Editor-in-Chief on the academic integrity of submitted articles.

Correction of a published article

  • The Journal allows the correction of minor errors and it does not affect the interpretations and conclusions of articles published in the Journal.

Withdrawal of an article

  • Withdrawal of an article is carried out when the article, that have been accepted, but have not been officially published, are found to be incorrect, duplicated findings with previously published articles or the publishing ethics is violated (such as multiple submissions, violation of copyright, plagiarism, etc.) , fraudulent data, ...).

Replacement of an article

  • When a published article is proposed for replacement, the authors of the original article may withdraw the original paper and replace it with a corrected version. This replacement article must be double-blind peer reviewed by two scientists and must be approved by the Editor-in-Chief.

Retraction of a published article

  • The article will be retracted when the article is found to be in violated copyright, plagiarism, fraudulent data. The article will be replaced with on-screen content indicating that the article has been removed.

 

Copyright Policy

  • The author retains the copyright and transfer to the Vietnam Journal of Nutrition and Food the copyright to first publish and permit others to share, copy, redistribute, mix, transform and develop the article without commercial purposes, and must clearly state the author and the place of first publication.
